Construction & Demolition Recycling

The City of Imperial Beach requires a Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Management Plan for some of the construction projects.

According to Cal Recycle, construction and demolition (C&D) waste account for 22% of all waste in California. That is a significant number considering much of that waste ends up in a landfill. Most construction waste can be recycled or reused at a cost-saving to the builder. In many cases, state and local law requires the recycling of 65% of all construction waste.

Note: 2016 CALGreen new requirements (PDF) apply to projects that are locally permitted starting on January 1st, 2017.

All are mandated to divert at least 65% of their construction waste, but who is required to divert?

  • Project cost is greater than $25,000
  • Project area is 2,500 square feet or more
  • Projects sponsored by the City or Redevelopment Agency
  • Project is governed by California Green Building Code

Construction waste generated in Imperial Beach can be handled through EDCO or by self-hauling to an approved C&D processing facility. There are different types of containers, check the dimension, load weight limits, and best uses for your project. Click here for the different type of containers available. Certain materials are not accepted, click here to find out which materials are accepted
